Vibration is the enemy; both in the recording studio and at home when it comes to sound quality. Place your hand on the loudspeaker while listening to music and you will instantly feel the energy produced by the drivers causing the cabinet to resonate. This level of resonance affects how your loudspeaker sounds. External vibration from your room, equipment stand, or speaker stands also affects the sound of your speakers.

We’ve written about IsoAcoustics isolation stands and platforms at some length, and many of us have used them in our own systems; I currently use one set of Aperta stands on my desktop with bookshelf speakers and three of their isolation platforms under two turntables and my Cambridge Audio Edge A integrated amplifier.

Apert Sub XL brings IsoAcoustics patented isolation technology to larger subwoofers up to 160 pounds / 72.5 kg. Powerful Bass Control

Like its smaller brother, the IsoAcoustics Aperta Sub XL separates the subwoofer from the supporting surface. Its specially designed internal insulators absorb energy that would otherwise be transferred to the structure below and distort the sound image.

It also prevents this energy from being reflected and directed back to the subwoofer where it could cause blur. The result is a significant improvement in terms of clarity and definition, sonic properties that are particularly difficult to obtain in the low frequency spectrum.

Design and functionality

The design of the IsoAcoustics Aperta Sub XL is as subtle as it is subtle. It discreetly supports and unties the subwoofer without attracting much attention. Because most subwoofers have feet at all four corners, the Aperta Sub XL uses the space between the feet for contact, which is an important design decision given that the insulators are designed to keep the driver’s energy on axis.

It comes with optional carpet discs that secure the subwoofer to carpeted surfaces if needed. Aperta Sub XL measures 14.5″ wide x 16″ deep x 1.5″ high (368mm x 406mm x 37mm).

HIGH END 2023

IsoAcoustics will be showcasing the Aperta Sub XL at the Hi-Fi HIGH END Show from May 18-21, 2023 at the MOC in Munich, Germany. Members can find IsoAcoustics in the Atrium 4.2 F210 and hear the company’s products in action.

The presentations will feature A/B demos with GAIA isolators on Focal Scala Utopia Evo speakers, demonstrating the significant difference in sound between GAIA isolators and factory speaker spikes.
